Here's a thought for all of you hungry for this Type II thing...It is possible to achieve, but it might be an augmented sort of II. IMO the sober with his head swiveled on Trey is still figuring out how to do this without heavy sedation. Let's face it... you all are a tough audience and it weighs on him. Plus, the speed of some of the materiel he holds most dear is break-neck. So, you all want him to kill the REBA sections and then launch a 45 minute mind-meld. This is a monstrously difficult dual-task. So, right now you are getting the original 1983-88 intent: hammer the parts and bring them back to order (that's what you all wished for in the heyday of the type II period). I think he is trying to tackle this gargantuan task; and do it somewhat sober. The song catalog is colossally bigger, so give him five years from Hampton to re-learn how to take you there. It has been and will be fun to watch him try to accomplish this whether or not he succeeds.
I agree with you 100% I couldn't have said it any better! I am so DELIGHTED to get to see Trey do the Electric/Acoustic format. The light is definitely growing brighter in Trey but at the same time I think a lot of us can agree that Trey sounded the best when he was that far gone. Now, it's that much emotional. There is that much HEART. I connected with Trey so deeply at AC during Divided Sky. I could see the tears rolling down his cheeks. I can imagine how hard it is to get up there and know your fans want a dance PARTY time and they want to rage, but he busts out a TTE or other unpopular yet meaning song and it's underappreciated. Well, I truly think that this touring format with the electric set and the acoustic set will truly open our mind and his as well. I would've given anything to be at the Scorchio Quintent show. When I heard it I cried the whole way through. I can literally feel his emotions just POURING out through the music and the words, it's so elegant, meaningful and heartfelt. I've been having really tough times in my life lately...pacing back and forth through Rift over and over again I can't listen to it enough it seems at this time in my life. I miss him and I can't wait to see him in Pittsburgh! Music is what feelings sound like <3
