I had to read all the way to the bottom before someone mentioned the helicopters?? That was what cements this show in my mind more than anything. I'll never forget raging the TTE even though everyone had seemingly grown to hate it (for Pete's sake give me that over Fuego any day), the amazing Jibboo>Gin, the Split that went sideways and never returned, the killer Hood, but the encore was insanity. I mean it's POSSIBLE that the band hired a helicopter to fly over and shine a spotlight down during "NO2", right? Or maybe it was the local traffic chopper with ridiculous timing, but whatever. Things that can only happen at a Phish show. 2010 was a fantastic year.

Phish set the tone for the weekend early. Jim>PYITE killed it. Cars Trucks Buses was jammed out beautifully. The Noblesville jam after Drowned was nice, not as powerful as last years, but none the less still great! The highlight of the show had to be the encore though. First Fee with a megaphone since 97, blending right into NO2, then to Kung, finishing up the night with a blazing cover of the Hendrix classic. This encore was easily the best of the year so far, and likely wont be topped. It left everyone at the Creek foaming at the mouth for the next day, and they didn't disappoint.

This show is standard Classic DeerCreek madness. If you've ever been there or are there now you know it's a farm-show-Fu**-fest! The boys love playing that shed, just like the Dead did in their day.... Ahhhh Creek. A smooth Jim, standard PYITE, good and smooth Roggae still kinda just letting it drip, then Bang! Nice and tight Cars, Trucks and Buses! This first set reminded me of Creek 00 with the CTB and Buffalo Bill. This show is a little more edgy, thought Trey was a lil off during Sugar Shack. Ok, ok, here's my rant. All you people crying about TTE shut up and put up. The song rocks, and is literally a musical masterpiece. Getting real tired of people complaining about TTE, and calling it a piss song. It's one of the most composed on Joy, and the lyrics are amazing.

It honestly reminded me of some of the great mid to late 90s shows where the whole band was on fire and really feeding off each other! Got a lot of classics, and the newer songs they played were unreal! Good call on the time turns elastic comment, it is a great tune and a great 1st set closer. Another memorable deer creek experience!

I saw this on youtube. The poster claims the Drowned jam from this show is the inspiration for Waiting All Night. After giving it a listen, I think he makes a pretty strong case, so I thought I'd throw it up here for other people to check out. Enjoy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h1UBGVJSY8M

Ok so this show is so good. I remember the 1st set being pretty good outside of TTE (just doesn’t do it for me). Set II is where the goods are at.

Hadn't listened to this show in a while, Drowned's improv is the rough draft of Waiting All Night, performed live. Great call by the Youtube guy.

Haven't relistened but set 1 highlgihts = roggae built up nicely. CTB was good, nice work from Page. And wolfman's brother was short, but good. There was some flubbing throughout the first set but it was very chill/mellow for the first part and I enjoyed it.

There was some flubbing throughout the first set but it was very chill/mellow for the first part and I enjoyed it. after spending three lovely nights in telluride, 2 of them with phish, i was wondering how i would adjust to the lawn at deer creek. well, once the boys cranked into runaway jim, i knew i would have no problems. we had a great seat low in the lawn between fishman and trey. jim was pretty standard, with good playing by all. punch got the party in high gear. i still have not seen trey nail "the landlady" portion of punch since they have been back, but what the hey, it's a fun tune two songs in. roggae was the first surprise of the night. once again, there were a few rough spots, but they tacked on a beautiful little jam on the back end of this one. ctb was not even on my radar. great tune and page lit this one up. i'm not a big sample fan, but i must say, this one was played pretty solid. nicu and horn were both good but straight forward. i'm not a huge sugar shack fan, so i have not listened to this one extensively. have they rearranged it? it sounded pretty good here. they kicked it back in high gear with a typically funky wolfman's brother. page had some hot licks on this one as gordo directed them through a nice jam. time turns elastic seemed to be played with a touch more vigor than the other versions i've seen.

These were my first Deercreek shows and all I can say is WOW. What energy and what great people everywhere. The encore of the first night was simply incredible. As soon as Trey came out with that megaphone the place erupted and I think everyone knew what was about to happen. What was crazy is that our group was talking about a Fee with a megaphone and how great it would be but never expected it to happen.

wishing to focus on the high points and positves...... @ reydempto - The tracking got messed up so Golgi is paired up with Hood. So Golgi is there, it's just matched up with Hood. It sucks but it's better than not having it at all. Hope that helped.

	 Really fun show.
		Really fun show. 8-12 soundcheck:
8-12 soundcheck: Started off with a great Runaway Jim, which I hadn't seen them play before. Played good PYITE, Cars-Trucks-Buses, Sample in a Jar and NICU. Sugarshack didn't fit in well for me at that point. Wolfman's Brother was alright as Time Turns Elastic but nothing to jump up and down for. Maybe I was hoping for something more for a finish to set one. Drowned was a great start to to second set. The third time i've seen them play it. I love Gotta Jibbo, Bathtub Gin, and Twist. Split Open and Melt is another favorite of mine but they (Phish) just never seemed to go into that long jam session they like to do with this one and it kinda faded away. I was dissappoited with it. Good finish with Dog Faced Boy, Harry Hood and Golgi Apparatus. The encore was the killer though and I doubt that they will duplicate that finish tomorrow night. Maybe, but who knows

This Gin was the best I've heard since that misunderstood show in Champlain back in the 90's. Seriously high intensity and energy. I can't stop thinking about it. Yeah the rest of the show was awesome, but that gin....[shivers]

I'm confused--This setlist says they finished the second set with Golgi before the encore, while livephish's download/setlist does not include that track. Is this an error here or did livephish screw me out of a tune?

The Jibboo > Gin segue reminds me of the Tweezer > Boogie On pairing from Telluride that folks inexplicably bitched about; Trey and Mike are really on top of the segues here. Gin is uplifting, but honestly, when was the last bad Gin? Twist and Hood are great, with a particularly satisfying return to the lyrics (and some Passion Pit-style 'woo!!') in the former tune and an extraordinary, elegant, all-too-brief minor-key interlude in Hood.
The biggest surprise in a surprise-filled set is the Split > Boy. Split pretty much falls apart after nine minutes or so, and the boys simply abandon the song's off-kilter time signature for an evil, martial 4/4. Fishman starts playing some tricks on the drums, for a second Trey and Page sound like 'Kid A'-era Radiohead, the whole thing dissolves into creepy ambient space, and in an echt-Phish moment, out of the mist emerges...the misanthropic love song from 'Hoist.' It's pretty cool.
The encore is exactly what it looks like.
Sorry this isn't a more critical/analytical review - for some reason, all I can do is recommend this one as a great time. 8/12/10 isn't gonna top any 'Best of' lists, I'm guessing, but it's the kind of show any other band would kill to play, and it's plenty of odd twists'n'turns to offer the diehards. Anyone who made the trip to Indiana for this one has gotta be feeling pretty good about her choice.
