My favorite -> into Waves, with the possible exception of 7/10/03. The Carini jam sets this one up nicely, and this version rolls like a schooner.

10/25/13's version is way stronger improvisationally (that green isn't just there for funsies), but I've always loved the placement of this version, the perfect way to wind down after the DWD > Carini hammer and tongs jamfest that preceded it. 12/29/13 II is most well-known for its big-time jams, but the rest of the set doesn't let them down, which is why 12/29/13 as a whole is still considered one of the modern era's benchmark shows.

You could have told me that this jam was played in Summer 2003 and I wouldn't have been the wiser; aside from the guitar tone, this very easily could have popped out of one of those epic Pipers from that year. A really nice jam from an overlooked show.

Amazing innovative outro jam into Undermind. For a few measures it sounds like Mike and Fishman have Timber Ho on the mind but it chugs along and evolves into a Timberish-Undermind hybrid, in this old timer's opinion.

Haunting, eclectic, dark, intense; yep this is Summer 2003 Phish. Yet, even by '03 standards this jam stands out. The song proper is standard Waves fare, but the following jam after the final refrain drops off any remaining ideal of "Waves" and morphs into a passage to the deep and murky depths of the underworld.

I might describe it as an ambient soundscape, but do not come in expecting Fukuoka Twist. That soundscape was delicate and more "musical." This ambient soundscape is sinister and one is hard pressed to find passages to tap one's foot to. That's not to say this is bad by any stretch of the imagination. As Westbrook already put it, you need to be in the right head-space.

Personally, I love the minimalist approach in the jam, but ultimately I feel like this is a "you had to be there" jam. I can only imagine what the light show was like. If you're a fan of jams like the Halloween '98 Wolfman's Brother, then this is one worth checking out. And if you love both of those jams, the 46 Days from the next night at IT is right up your alley.

I have to be in a certain head space to really get into the ambient noise jam in the back half of this Waves, but when I am craving a total space out jam, few others do the trick as well as this one.
