DriedupGoliath The section from about 10:30 to 12:00ish kind of sounds like the genesis of one of the one of the sections of Fuego, the instrumental section after the first two verses.

n00b100 A big, warm, Santana-inflected multi-part jam that basically holds up a huge sign reading "THIS IS WHAT 3.0 JAMMING AT ITS BEST SOUNDS LIKE". Fall 2013 is packed to the gills with green-colored jams, and this is entirely worthy of that status, indeed.

Still prefer this show's Light, though.

BobDollar Agree with the label...

BUT this is one of my favorite jams to work/write to. 100x listens! Lots of poly-rhythmic layers with quiescent asynchronous guitar loops and Page and Mike interleaving a panoply of themes throughout. And all the time Fish playing like a mad man. His un-acceptance to let the jam fade halfway through is what morphs this into the gem it is.

100% agreed. I'm guessing that the splitting of "Drowned" and "Darien Jam #2" on Live Phish Volume 3 had some influence on the way this is currently listed in the 9/14/00 setlist, but the Live Phish CD series and LP.com show downloads often split longer jams from cover songs, in what I'd assume was in an effort to limit the cost of royalty payments. No need to follow that labeling, IMO.

kipmat For this phan, a big reason that the midnight-sunrise NYE set is so special, is that the band outlasted the roar of the audience, and were able to get to some quiet, patient soundcheck-style jams like this. The Fukuoka Twist > Jam -> Walk Away -> Jam is probably the winner for the most chilled-out Phish jam of all time, but this one is in the discussion for sure.

n00b100 I'd go green at the very least for this gem, one of the most purely funky jams Phish has ever played - even in Fall '97, where you could throw a rock and hit a funk jam in any of the shows. Page, in particular, is absolutely on fire all throughout. A jam that would have been unfathomable even a year before, but stands proudly as a prototypical improvisation from Phish's finest hour.
