I wonder what effect a "cooling off" period would have - not allowing a show to be rated until a few days or a week has passed after the show.I think we should wait a minimum of 2-3 weeks after tour has been completed before rating. (It took me over a year to figure out where I'd put 10-31-14 in my overall ranking of shows seen.)
As far as biases over time periods of a few years or longer, such as those of newer phans coming to .net, I think those could only be controlled for as part of a statistical analysis. I want to delve into this as soon as I get some free time.My data are pulled from only publicly available info, and I'm not sure the mods would even allow us to pull individual user data. If we could, then we can control for a variety of selection effects--attendance, recency, and newbie. Frankly, it never occurred to me to ask for this access. Plus, I have no API skills!
Phish.net is a non-commercial project run by Phish fans and for Phish fans under the auspices of the all-volunteer, non-profit Mockingbird Foundation.
This project serves to compile, preserve, and protect encyclopedic information about Phish and their music.
The Mockingbird Foundation is a non-profit organization founded by Phish fans in 1996 to generate charitable proceeds from the Phish community.
And since we're entirely volunteer – with no office, salaries, or paid staff – administrative costs are less than 2% of revenues! So far, we've distributed just about $1,500,000 to support music education for children – hundreds of grants in all 50 states, with more on the way.
