I'm honestly torn on TTE. I generally like the music (especially the orchestral version), though there are a lot of intricate, composed and mellow sections that don't always seem well-suited for a Phish show. But I'd be willing to forgive all of that if not for.....the lyrics. I like some of Trey's lyrics perfectly well and others I'm less crazy about, but can easily overlook because the music is so good (e.g. PYITE), but this is one long, tough slog. "Moments all glow," "Honey mist that breathes," "maple fingers trembling," and "kissed by the water." It's all a little too treacly.
I hear people call TTE a "set killer," but I think it's the next generation "Fluffhead." There will be a day in the near future where this song is rarely seen and when it shows, it's a special event. Trust me on this: this is part of the next generation of complex, composed rarities.
TMI: According to my iTunes, I am listening to the Joy version of "TTE" for the 78th time since 10/18/09. Far and away, the highest play count for any song in my library.
