whrdinaOh boy- you missed a big one. The 11/25/94 Thanksgiving Version of Harpua at UIC Pavillion. It was my first show- and featured the VERY FIRST GLOWSTICK WAR- not initiated by the crowd- but by the band. There were 2 colors- red and green. The red ones represented Harpua's angry red hate beam and the green Poster's love beam. As Trey was telling the climax of the story- plants in the audience began launching tons of the sticks into the air. It was quite simply amazing. It was that Harpua that provided the initial push to close to 80 shows over 16 years. Oom-pah-pah indeed.

itsice12/30/97 was my first show, a show that totally blew me away and is still in my Top 3 shows of any band I've ever seen. I give a lot of the credit to that version of Harpua.

MDosqueI yearn to hear a Harpua. Please check out the 12/29/96 performance coming out of a wacky YEM-Rotation Jam. This was my first show and the feeling and vibe has stuck with me ever since. In fact, it has unfortunately clouded my experiences at shows through the years because I was always chasing that feeling and vibe while of course, Phish evolved. I can't tell you how many times I wished for that moment during some of the zonked out droning of 03/04. It was my hangup and I regret not letting myself go and seeing the positive of those 2.0 jam. For sure, 97-98 brought the straight up phunk and 99-00 the space, but a part of me always wishes for those silly, confused theatrical moments of the mid-90's. The band was doing something totally different from any other live show. They mixed every possible artistic medium on stage and we loved every second of it. Jimmy? Yes Dad? Who the F would ever think of that shit? If you get Harpua live in 3.0, savor it...it's a special moment.
