Review by Mikesgroover

Mikesgroover The first West Coast show the band ever played cost $1. Let that sink in for a minute. Considering the price, this performance is outstanding, even if there's very little to make it stand out for the era.

From the sound of the tape, the turnout is pretty good and some of the audience is clearly familiar with the material. After Divided Sky, Trey tells the crowd “We’re finally here, after years of trying to play California.”

During a clean but otherwise unremarkable YEM, the band's vocal jam includes them repeating "Take off your jacket now".

Trey introduces Fishman by saying "“His first performance ever in Color- excuse me, California."

Fishman's solo includes an explanation of the source of his new vacuum. "I bought this for $69 I Colorado. In Steamboat Springs. My other one’s an Electrolux but it’s dying. I found this at a vacuum sale. It’s got as much power per square inch as an Electrolux."

The early Chalkdust starts off a little tentatively, but finishes nicely. An historic night, even if there's little that's musically memorable about it.
