^^ - after the first run through Trey told John to play a little run at the very end of the song. The band then went back and played the end once more
^^^ - featured a typically amazing Medeski piano solo considered by some to be better than what was played during the show

Encore: Moesha*** (0:05)

^ 24:12 in length, with start/stop funk jam throughout
^^ - formerly listed as "Plasma", and later listed as "Small Axe", this tune is neither; it is described as "Arabianesque" or "middle eastern sounding", with Grippo on a soprano sax (not a clarinet); first part of each line was "When I" or "When you", and it is now being called "When"
   * - lightning struck near the amphitheater just as the song ended, and was in distant Denver the whole show (but no rain!)
& - Kevin Shapiro reports that there is *both* an E Thing *and* a G Thing song, and suggests comparing them, as they both appeared in the first set of 2/24/01
   # - Trey says, "This used to be called something else [Waves] before lyrics were added, but now it is Radon Balloon and it appears on the Oysterhead album coming out this fall. You heard it here first!" Although earlier reported as Happiness In My Pants with lyrics, that's actually the new Oysterhead song Birthday Boys.
   @ - Trey solo acoustic
** - audience sang along and some continued singing after Trey left the stage
*** - before "Moesha" Trey thanked the audience for being so patient, checking out his new music, and sticking with him/them through the changes. Without going into detail about key and time signature, Kevin Shapiro (with the help of Ellis Godard and Rob Johnson) has provided the following information to serve as reference points in differentiating between the different instrumentals being played on tour by Trey and his band.

NOTE: Unfortunaetly, due to bandwidth considerations, currently we can only give you 1-minute samples of the beginnings of each piece in MP3 format. We'll work to find a way to give you a sample of the full song soon.

There are currently 14 different instrumentals:

  1. At the Barbecue - appears on One Man's Trash and 2/21/01 Set II after "Gotta Jibboo" (mp3 available); aka "Samson Variation" or "Blow Wind Blow"
  2. Happiness In My Pants - debuted by Oysterhead, 5/4/00 Set I (mp3 available); also 2/23/01 II after "Ooh Child" (mp3 available)
  3. Mozambique - 2/26/01 Set I after "The Way I Feel"
  4. Tube Top Wobble - 2/23/01 I after "Push On Till the Day"
  5. Sidewalks of San Francisco - 2/23/01 Encore (with Page) (mp3 available)
  6. Noodle Rave Daddy-o- Debuted 2/21/01 Set II after "Drifting" (mp3 available) also available as a video clip at http://www.phish.com/treyanastasio
  7. At the Gazebo - 2/23/01 Set II after "Gotta Jibboo" (mp3 available)
  8. Waves - 2/24/01 Encore (dedicated to Captain Kevin) (mp3 available); with lyrics now known as "Radon Balloon"
  9. Battle Axe - 2/24/01 Set I; instrumental arrangement of Bob Marley's "Small Axe," arranged by The Upsetters
  10. Nothing but an E Thing - 2/24/01 Set I after "Battle Axe" (dedicated by Trey to his Dad) (mp3 available)
  11. Nothing but a G Thing - 2/24/01 Set I after "At the Gazebo" (mp3 available)
  12. Tops Off - 2/24/01 Set I after "Nothing but a G Thing"; introduced by Tony on 5/14/99 as a blues standard of which the origins are "shrouded in antiquity." He doesn't know who wrote it or even what it's about, but says it may be about taking off your hat, or a top off a bottle, or your shirt off and that it may have been written by a blues rascal named "Eddie Bo".
  13. Aqui Como Alla - 2/26/01 Set I after "Burlap Sack and Pumps"; Arsenio Rodriguez cover (known to Phish fans by Marc Ribot's cover, on his album that is a tribute to Rodriguez), no horns, played on 1st Trey solo tour
  14. The Chicken - 3/2/01 Set I after "Ooh Child"; jazz standard by Alfred "Pee Wee" Ellis

[About the HPB]

HPB DETAILS:
The Helping Phriendly Book is the common name for the Phish.Net setlist archive, the collected lists of songs played at Phish concerts from 1983 through today. The HPB is brought to you by the work and contributions of countless fans at absolutely no charge. Please note that while the HPB continues to be the first source of recent setlists, as well as an important online reference, the Mockingbird Foundation has published the most complete and accurate setlist database available anywhere (with research assistance from the band's official archives) in their book The Phish Companion. For definitive setlist data, please refer to that document. Thanks, and happy listening!

Copyright, Credits, and History: Read about who has worked on the HPB over the years, and see your name if you've contributed!
ZZYZX's Phish Stats: since the HPB search capabilities are rather limited, we encourage you to use ZZYZX's Phish Stats. Please try the variety of powerful tools he offers before emailing me in search of a setlist. Thanks.
