Review by dscott

dscott The first 2 sets contain some of the worst Phish I've ever heard. The highlights include islands of adequacy (e.g. Sneakin' Sally) and quirky novelty ("It's his song" lyrics to kick off Mike's Song; Mike's Song chorus quotes and Rhode Island exhortations during Weekapaug). That's not enough to make up for cringeworthy trainwrecks like Bold As Love and Fluffhead.

Thank goodness for Set 3!!! TMWSIY > Avenu Malkenu is a little tentative, but then they deliver a tight and punchy Peaches En Regalia. Mike especially shines on this one. JJLC is indeed a monstrous version, with Page testifying and Trey's guitar evangelizing. McGrupp gets nice & floaty, with Fishman's awkward trombonery adding a free jazz ambience. Lilting segue into a fiery, hard-charging Antelope...and then alas the tape cuts off shortly after they drop into the reggae-fied syncopation preceding "Rye Rye Rocco."
