Review by westbrook

westbrook The first set is well played and I like the song selection, but nothing really stands out as must-hear. It is a pretty good set though. The pause in Divided Sky is not nearly as rowdy as when played back home, and the set-closing Antelope is pretty hot. Things get more interesting in the second set with a good Possum opener and the really nice pair of Tweezer->Llama. Tweezer is short and sweet and the segue into Llama is excellent. The following Mike's Groove is notable too. Mike's Song is chunky with great organ playing from Page and leads into a -> into what is possibly the best/most unique I am Hydrogen ever. On the recording from the spreadsheet, I am Hydrogen is timed at 8:43, but I think some of that time is just the second jam of Mike's Song. Either way, the Mike's Song jam moves smoothly into a Hydrogen type jam that needs to be heard. Weekapaug is quite good and funky too. The rest of the show is solid. SBDs circulate of these 99 Japan shows. They're worth checking out, and this one may be the best of the bunch.
