Noel Redding

Full Name: Noel Redding

Best known in rock and roll circles as the bass player for The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Redding, who passed away in 2003, is revered in Phish circles for his role in one of the funniest on-stage gags. Phish had long covered Hendrix’ “Fire,” but Trey chided Mike on 2/6/93 in New York City for not getting the song right. Redding came out from backstage to lead the song; Mike moved over to keyboards. (Redding was in town to perform as part of the Ritz Power Jam; Trey and Mike sat in at that performance the previous night.) Redding is not the only Hendrix collaborator to have appeared with Phish. Buddy Miles, drummer for Hendrix’ Band of Gypsys, sat in with the band on 10/22/96.
