Jimmy Herring came to prominence as the guitarist alongside Colonel Bruce Hampton in The Aquarium Rescue Unit. After leaving the band, Herring sat in with Day by the River while they auditioned new guitarists in the fall of 1995, led the short-lived super-group Frogwings, and helped organize Jazz is Dead, The Justice League All-Stars and Project Z. He has also performed with the Allman Brothers Band, Phil and Friends, The Other Ones and The Dead. In the early 90’s, Herring made several on-stage appearances with the entire ARU. In fact, many Phish fans jokingly called him their “second favorite red-haired guitarist.” Only twice has he appeared without ARU in its entirety. On 2/19/93, he added his blues guitar stylings to “Funky Bitch,” “My Sweet One,” “Love You” and “Llama.” On 7/27/93, he was one of many guests who came out for a “You Enjoy Myself” set closer.
