Bela Fleck

Full Name: Bela Fleck

Although best known as leader of The Flecktones, Béla Fleck was creating great music on the banjo long before The Flecktones’ formation in 1989. His most impressive work outside of his current band came as a member of the famed New Grass Revival. According to his website @ www.flecktones.com, Béla is “the only musician to be nominated for Grammys in jazz, bluegrass, pop, country, spoken word, Christian, composition and world music categories.” He has appeared on records with artists like Dave Matthews and Bruce Hornsby and has brought such diverse musicians to the live stage as Shawn Colvin, Adrian Belew and John Medeski.
In addition to his on-stage exploits with The Flecktones, Béla has joined Phish solo for: “Nellie Kane” (8/21/93, 10/18/94); “Beaumont Rag,” “Lifeboy,” “Llama,” “The Old Home Place,” and “Scent of a Mule” (10/18/94); and “I’m Blue I’m Lonesome,” “My Long Journey Home,” “Poor Heart,” “Slave to the Traffic Light” and “Taste That Surrounds” (11/29/95).
