ANNOUNCEMENT OF LIST
The Phish.Net Digest is a high-content, low-noise moderated collection of posts to the
various Phish.Net discussion forums, primarily the USENET newsgroup
rec.music.phish.
The Phish.Net Digest, and the Working Group that will administer the Digest,
are formed on three basic principles: Accountability, Consistency, and
Diversity. Accountability: The Phish.Net is made up of all of us, the fans of
Phish in the online world. The volunteers that work on the different
Phish.Net projects should be accountable to the people we serve. We feel that
a collectively run Digest will create accountability, moreso than if such a
project was held in the trust of any single individual. Consistency: the
Phish.Net needs a consistent, reliable, trusted, and high-quality subset of
content, which is difficult if not impossible for any one person to provide
on a consistent basis. We believe that a group effort will result in a
consistent product. Diversity: the Phish.Net is made up of many diverse
individuals, and the Digest should reflect that diversity. A group of diverse
individuals administering the Digest will better reflect the diversity that
exists in within Phish.Net.
In short, we are PSYCHED to provide this service, and hope that you are
psyched to read and enjoy the Digest. Perhaps more importantly, we hope YOU
are psyched to contribute to high-quality Phish discussion, because this is
all about all of you: your ideas, your comments, your wisdom, your concerns,
your reviews, and your joy, the joy that we all share while enjoying Phish.
:-)
To contribute your own Phish-related thoughts (and submit them for
consideration in the Digest), post them to rec.music.phish via the email
gateway rmp@www.phish.net.
We would like to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of Rosemary
Mackintosh and Benjy Eisen, without whose efforts this Digest would not be
possible. Thanks also to "super-consultant" Charlie Dirksen.
PLEASE, please feel free to forward this message to friends who may be
interested, especially those who may not be intimately tuned in to current
activity on the newsgroup rec.music.phish, Phish-Women, Digi-Phish, or other
Phish.Net lists and projects.
Publication begins immediately! We hope that the Phish.Net Digest becomes an
important part of your online Phish experience! :-)
Finally, we welcome your comments at digest@www.phish.net Technical concerns
may be addressed to Dan Hantman at phishnet-digest-request@lists.netspace.org
Sincerely, The Phish.Net Digest Working Group: Brian
Fisk, Charlz Franz, Julia Mordaunt, Ellis Godard, Dan Hantman, Dan
Mielcarz, and Jeremy Goodwin.

WORKING GROUP MEMBERS
Brian Fisk - Technical Guru (bfisk@netspace.org), 23, lives in Belmont, MA and was initiated
into the club in Fall of 1994, through a combination of exposure to the
Brown University NetSpace Project (home of www.phish.net) and the incessant
ravings of a friend who just got back from the famed Halloween show (and
later shared the tapes). Since then he has unfortunately missed several
concert opportunities, but recently 7/13/99 Great Woods inspired him to
work a little harder. Finally free of academia, he now spends his days
working for Compaq and also working the technical wizardry behind Phish.Net
projects, partially for the enjoyment of phans everywhere, but also to hear
the rest of the Working Group say that "he rocks." :-)
Charlz Franz - Moderator (charlzfranz@earthlink.net)
lives in Woodbridge VA with his wife, Heidi, 11 year-old daughter, Erika (first show 7-9-99 Merriweather!), 2 year-old son, Jakob, and two cats. He
serves on the Mockingbird Foundation's setlist working group. He came as close as he's ever come to believing in a deity at 7-22-97 Raleigh, NC. His favorite show attended was 12-11-97 Rochester. No, make that 11-25-95 Hampton. Would you believe 8-14-96 Hershey?
Ellis of Lemuria - Moderator (godard@virginia.edu),
28, lives in Santa Cruz, CA, has seen plenty of shows, and has been
on the Phish.Net since early 1991, and often has something interesting
to say, but it's obvious when he doesn't because his sentences get really
long. Like this. Ellis is a PhD candidate in sociology and is interested
in general theory, conflict management, and the social structure of cyberspace.
As part-time work while writing his dissertation, he has done website design,
statistical consulting, and financial editing, and a bit of college teaching.
He recommends strongly that you check out the band Lake
Trout.
Jeremy D. Goodwin - Moderator (sirklamm@aol.com)
lives in Swampscott, Massachusetts, home of the Dory.
He graduated from George Washington University last Spring. He is contemplating
his novel and plotting his next move. Phish is by far his favorite rock band.
Dan Hantman - Technical Support (dan@www.phish.net) likes Phish a lot, especially the 11/7/96 Bathtub Gin. He's happy to help you with any technical problems with the Digest via email at phishnet-digest-request@lists.netspace.org. Dan is also a Phish.Net Webmaster, and long-time volunteer with the Mockingbird Foundation. "Mares eat oats and does eat oats..."
Julia "FahtHarpua" Mordaunt - Moderator (fahtharpua@aol.com) currently resides in Buffalo, New York. In her free time, she loves to travel, write, relax with friends, and of course -- groove to Phish. She was first introduced to Phish by her older brother (whom she will be forever in debt to because of that fact) in 1992. Two of her most memorable Phish shows were 10/9/94 and 8/9/98. She is currently a Film major at the University of
Buffalo. Already writing her own scripts, Julia hopes one day, to be writing and directing her films wherever she lands in the near future. You can spot her at Phish shows with a Super 8 glued to her face (well, not literally).
Dan Mielcarz - Moderator (mielcarz@netspace.org),
22, lives in Brighton, MA, and works at Children's Hospital doing research
in mucosal immunology. He has been listening to Phish since 1993, discussing
Phish on the net since 1994 and going to as many shows as he can (or can't)
afford. Dan is excited to be participating in the Phish.Net Digest and
hopes that it will help make rec.music.phish a great place for Phish discussion
once again.

WELCOME MESSAGE (to subscribers)
For general information about Phish on the Internet, please
send a message to info@www.phish.net. As a subscriber of The
Phish.Net Digest, you will receive a regular subset of the
best postings to the newsgroup rec.music.phish, as well
as material gathered from other Phish.Net projects.
Please keep in mind that The Phish.Net Digest is a fan-operated
service, and is moderated by members of The Phish.Net Digest
Working Group. If you wish to participate in Phish discussion,
send email to the rec.music.phish email gateway at:
rmp@www.phish.net, use your ISPs newsreader/poster,
or use a web-based usenet reading and posting service such as http://www.deja.com. The criteria for inclusion of postings
to The Phish.Net Digest is spelled out on our web page at:
http://www.phish.net/online/phishnet-digest.html. Our goal
is not to create another discussion forum, but to improve the
quality of discussion on existing forums, primarily rec.music.phish.
That's why we'd like you to keep your posts going directly to the
newsgroup. The Working Group is comprised of human beings with
faults, so if you feel that we have inadvertently missed a
Digest-worthy post, please feel free to bring it to our attention
by sending a message to phishnet-digest-request@lists.netspace.org.
The Phish.Net Digest is *not* an official source of information
(unless you see a post by a member of the band's staff; the only
staff member who currently posts such official information is
Shelly Culbertson, shell@phish.com). Only the band's organization (http://www.phish.com/) is, and we encourage you to give the band's
organization your primary trust for information. The Phish.Net
Digest Working Group will not knowingly include postings that
contain incorrect or fraudulent information, but again, we are
only human. You should take everything contained within the Digest
with a grain of salt, as should be the case when you read the
newsgroup rec.music.phish (or any other usenet newsgroup!) :-)
For a good manual of information about how to operate and
manage your LISTSERV subscription, please use the User's
Guide at http://www.lsoft.com/manuals/1.8d/user/user.html.
To receive individual messages one by one instead of regular
digests, send a message to listserv@lists.netspace.org with a BODY
of "set phishnet-digest nodigest" (which sounds funny, but
works just fine :-).
TO UNSUBSCRIBE: Send a message to
listserv@lists.netspace.org with
a BODY of "unsubscribe phishnet-digest".
