 WELCOME TO PHISH.NET
The Phish.Net is an online community of Phish fans, though most often identified with this particular web site (www.phish.net). Originally a single electronic mailing list, it has grown to a web of mailing lists, a high-traffic usenet newsgroup, several IRC and web-based chat forums, and hundreds of Phish-related web sites.
 HISTORY
The cornerstone of online Phish discussion began in late 1991 with the original Phish Digest, a subscription e-mail list of 12 lovably nerdy fans. As more fans subscribed and discussion grew, fans petitioned to form a Usenet newsgroup. Created in 1992, rec.music.phish became only the third usenet newsgroup dedicated to a band (following the Grateful Dead and the Beatles). The Phish Digest came to an end during the summer of 1995 as it was decided unnecessary given that internet service was more readily available and usenet was more readily accessible than they were when the newsgroup was created. Several months before the end of the original Phish Digest, a member of the Phish.Net community, Rosemary Dean Mackintosh, proposed the idea of offering a filtered digest, and volunteered to read every post to the newsgroup and offer what she felt was the most relevant posts to the subscribers. Rosemary's Digest offered the content of rec.music.phish "through rose coloured glasses" until September of 1997 when the workload became too much, and Rosemary gave up the digest. Despite the demise of these 2 early Phish ailing lists, there still exist many available forums for Phish discussion on the Internet.
