Is
there an official newsletter?
There was an official newsletter put out from the band's production
office (Dionysian) called The Doniac Schvice. But it hasn't
gone out since at least Spring 2000 and, buried somewhere in the
Flash content that phish.com has become, is the announcement that
"The Schvice has been discontinued indefinitely."
- Circulation: Aaccording to Page
in an interview published 7/97 in
the LA Times, the Schvice "goes out to between 100,000
and 200,000 people six times a year." (More like 3-4 times
these days.)
- Precursor: What was simply "The Phish Update"
became "Doniac Schvice"
in late 1993.
- Subtitle: The subtitle is "from the fish
to the tongue".
- Meaning of title: No one seems to know what "Doniac
Schvice" means.
- Duh! Its been said that that's the title for "obvious"
reasons.
- Doh! As JennM posted (8/29/97), Mike said in one
issue that "Doniac Schvice is that experience when you
are coming home and you hear the phone ring and you fumble
for your keys to get the door unlocked - and when you finally
get inside and to the phone - right then and only right then,
it stops ringing.".
- Oh? Doniac Schvice is an anagram of civic cash node,
nice disc havoc, second civic ha, oh civic dances, choice
disc van, his cod can vice, she can do civic, and he cons
civic ad.
- Eh... When you say the words "Doniac Schvice" out
loud, it kinda sounds like a German Guy saying "Don't ask
Twice." (mayortr@hotmail.com).
- Pronunciation: DOE-nee-ack sh'-VICE
- Back-issues are available for sale from Dry
Goods (Images of earlier issues were
earlier available at the archives
via ftp
or www.)
You can get on the mailing list via an online
web form or by writing Phish Mailing List, P.O. Box 4400, Burlington,
VT, 05406-4400. The newsletter includes upcoming show
dates, news from
and about the band, poetry
and prose by the band and friends,
catalog-ette of official
merchandise, and, added recently, ordering form and information
for mail orders for tickets!
