MYSTERY JAM MONDAY PART 375

Welcome to the 375th edition of Phish.Net's Mystery Jam Monday, the second of May. The winner will receive an MP3 download code courtesy of our friends at LivePhish.com / Nugs.Net. To win, be the first person to identify the songs and dates of the two mystery clips. The clips are connected by a theme, but the theme needn't be part of the correct answer. Each person gets one guess to start – if no one answers correctly in the first 24 hours, I'll post a hint. After the hint, everyone gets one more guess before Wednesday at 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET. Good luck!

Answer: Congrats to @raisinsnacks on their first MJM, who needed no time (and no hint) to see that this week's theme was "Theme" in identifying the 11/2/13 "Theme From the Bottom" and the 12/31/14 "Theme From the Bottom." Stop by Monday for a more difficult pair of clips for MJM376.

MiguelSanchez My inability to place these jams is frustrating the hell out of me. Both sound insanely familiar.

I completely agree. That first jam is nasty! I checked a few of the usual suspects and came up empty. Great MJM! Can't wait to find out the first clip.

A MJM couldn't have been pitched more in my wheel house than that first jam. I foresee me feeling lots of shame when I find out what that is and realize I've heard 3000 times.

I think I've got the 2nd one now. Need to confirm. May be off. They could be throwing a red herring in there and have me sniffing down the wrong rabbit hole.

raisinsnacks The theme is Theme.

Theme 11-02-13

12/31/14 was not what I was thinking, but I just confirmed what I was thinking was dead wrong. I'm pretty sure you nailed this one.

Yep, this seems like the winner. Gotta dust off that 11/2/13 theme!!

y0nm4n Seems that the Theme need be part of the correct answer.

User_43385_ Man.... so close yet so far. I know no. 2 without doubt. No. 1 escapes me.

uctweezer I thought this one might be a quick solve but the jams were too sweet to hold them back much longer - love seeing first-time MJM winners too; nice work!

But are the jams as underrated as the winner's username? I'm more of a Swedish Fish guy for show snacks.

Raisins are "nature's candy."

Raisins are also a “dirty trick” when put into cookies - nothing worse than thinking you’re about to hit chocolate and a bunch of raisins smacks you in the face hole

raisinsnacks I've spent hours sometimes trying to put my finger on some MJMs, but I knew these two immediately. AC '13 is my favorite run of 3.0 (attendance bias). I love a Theme second jam...anyone have suggestions other than these two?

The only other one I can think of where the final vocals of Theme are sung, and then there is a second jam, is 1995/06/22. It is a very spacy jam that gradually gains momentum and then crashes into a gigantic Tweezer.

You want the 10/22/14 Theme with the 'Echoes' post-jam.

wforwumbo In addition to the Echoes 10/22/14 theme, I second Pete’s suggestion of the jam chart. A few quick abbreviated notes from over my breakfast:

-It is hard to go wrong with literally any 95, 97, or 98 theme. All are worth spinning.

-In addition to what’s been mentioned, I’ll throw out the Went theme (8/16/97) in which the middle jam is where the band writes and/or experiments with the WTU? theme. Earlier in that week, 8/9/97 theme is also good (and stick around for that Ghost two songs later!). A bit more famous, 12/29/97 and Ventura 98 (7/20/98) are also pretty solid.

-My personal favorite Theme is 7/26/99, which has lots of extended feedback matched with classic summer ‘99 swirl. For that matter, all of that second set is worth your time to hear - easily my favorite set of Phish.
