What band relatives have taken part?

We've got relatives, cuz we've got a band.

Onstage:

  • Mimi Fishman (Henrietta's mother; her birthday is April 5, btw), e.g. on vacuum 11-23-92 (during Lengthwise) and 8-20-93 II for I Didn't Know. Another memorable Mimi vacuum solo is on 10-19-91 The Catalyst, Santa Cruz, CA, great tapes circulate. Also 7/19/91 (Sommerville Theater, the same show of the showing of the "Esther" video), she danced onstage and *attempted* a vacuum solo during "I Didn't Know". Mimi has been hard at work for many vision-related causes, including her VisionFest for the American Glaucoma Society.
  • Mike's grandmother, 12-31-94 during "Chalkdust Torture"
  • Dr. Jack McConnell (Page's father), at 7/28/93 and 11-18-95, both for "Bill Bailey"

Page's dad worked at at the McNeil drug company and was one of the key plyers in developing Tylenol. In an interview in Parade Magazine, Page explained: "My father, who's a doctor, started a free clinic after he retired, staffed by retired doctors and nurses, to provide health care for people who can't afford health insurance. Both my parents are very giving people who feel it's important to give back to the community. Their lives make me feel good about what we're doing--trying to bring happiness and joy into people's lives."
  • Mike's mom, Marjorie Minkin, created some great backdrops that were used for a few years.

Perhaps more guest appearances by relatives in the future? Trey, Page, and Jon are married, and Trey has two daughters.

In songs:

  • Elihu Abrahams (Dave's dad, and member of the Physics Department at Princeton; in "Sample in a Jar")
  • Eliza and Isabella (Trey's daughters) are also the names of a Phish original and a Hendrix cover, respectively

Etc:

  • Trey's dad is, or at least was, Executive Vice-President at ETS (Educational Testing Service), the company that administers the SATs, Advanced Placement exams, GREs, etc. for the College Board. ETS is based in Princeton, NJ, hence Trey's childhood there.
  • Trey's Mom worked for Sesame Street Magazine; the two of them wrote kiddie songs together, including "Skippy the Wondermouse", one of three crucial seeds for the Gamehendge saga The Man Who Stepped into Yesterday.
  • Family life: Trey married Susan; they have two daughters, Eliza and Isabella. Fish married Pam Tengris in 1997 (but they divorced in 2000). Page married Sofi Dillof (who performed 8/3/91 and has contributed great photography to Phish history). Mike married Cilla Foster (llustrator for Mike's Corner book and column) 6/20/98.

"`[Vermont is] a great place to have a family,' says Trey, father of two girls. 'It almost makes we wanna have kids,' says Fish, 'but I'm actually going in the opposite way. I'm going to have more parents.'""
