Can
I take photos at a Phish show?
Phish only allows photography (still and video) at their shows
with a signed pass from the band/management. These passes are usually
worn around the neck so that at a glance Security can see that you
are legit. Unfortunately this has become necessary due to people
photographing/videoing the band and then illegally selling their
products. Paraphrased from posts by Shelly
Culbertson 7/30/97 and Dre <williama@kenyon.edu> c.1993
It became policy circa 3/24/92. Photographers who manage to get
passes are for the most part professionals (e.g. Nubar
Alexanian) and work for publications. They are usually not
found in the audience, given their needs for space and access, and
the expense of their equipment.
Stealth photography is strongly discouraged, even by other fans.
When Phish got more popular and everyone who wanted pictures just
grabbed any ole thing to take the shots, the result was annoying
flashes in the band's eye all night long. So-called quot;sneakers"
make it difficult for the legit professionals who wan the band to
soften their policy and allow more passes.
Nonetheless, there are many pages that host fan-taken, including
lot photos, festival photos, and photos of side
projects:
Also, you might want to check out the Phish.Net's
archives,
including the collections of pictures and graphics.
